Upon arrival to Lima, Peru, we will spend the first day in Lima where we will have a chance to explore the city and immerse ourselves in the Peruvian culture. That night, a bus will take us to the large mountain city of Ayacucho. Due to the higher elevation of Ayacucho and the days to follow, a full day and a half will be spent there. While staying there we will spend most of our time around Huamanga, the most important part of Ayacucho.

On the second day in Ayacucho, the mission aspect of the trip will begin. Men and women will break off into different caravans traveling to separate mountaintop villages for the next five days. While at various villages, men and women will carry out door to door evangelization and help with any work that is needed to be done. Most importantly, students will be given the opportunity to learn and speak Quechua, the native highland language. Conversations with locals will give students a glimpse of the humble lives that people there live.

Everyday will consist of some sort of hiking and physical activity, as this is the easiest means of traveling to various remote locations. Long treks will be made riding in vans. Students are encouraged to have consistent prayer leading up to and during the trip as there will be many instances where students will be tried in various circumstances.

After the time spent in the highlands, we will return to Lima to spend a few more days in and around the city experiencing the culture with plenty of delicious food.

Leading up to the mission trip, there will be formation events to help students grow in their faith and prepare them for different things they might experience on mission in Peru. Along with formation, there will also be community building events and community prayer time to help students get to know their peers going on the trip.

Due to the price of the mission trip, there will be fundraiser workshops meant to teach students how to fundraise for the trip. As a group, we will also conduct several group fundraising sessions.

Because we will be on the southern side of the equator in May, Peru will just be entering its winter months. In Lima, Peru the average high is 72 F while the low is 62 F. In Ayacucho, the high is around 70 F and the lows tend to be at 49 F. Prepare for slightly colder temperatures as much time will be spend at even higher elevations than Ayacucho.
