The Organ Is Here. Now We Have to Keep It Alive.

In the Spring of 2026, Bishop Emeritus Thomas J. Olmsted blessed and dedicated our new Peragallo pipe organ.

That evening was a celebration. It was also the end of one chapter. The organ is here. What comes next is making sure it is played well, cared for properly, and shared with the ASU community for decades, not just years.

That is what the Sacred Music Endowment Fund is for.

An endowment works differently than paying for the organ itself did. It is not a one time gift for a one time project. It is a permanent fund. The principal is invested and protected, and only a small portion of the earnings is spent each year, forever. Once it is fully funded, the organ and the music program it supports never have to depend on next year's fundraising again.

What the Endowment Pays For

Our organist and music director. The instrument is only as good as the people leading it. This fund secures ongoing support for the musicians who lead our sacred music program.

Our choir and sacred music program. Beautiful worship is not one instrument alone. This fund supports the choir, formation, and the broader music ministry that brings sacred music to life at every Mass.

Maintenance and tuning. A pipe organ is a living, breathing instrument made of thousands of parts. It requires regular, skilled care to stay in voice.

Public concerts. This organ was not built to be heard only during Mass. Sacred music has the power to draw people, students and neighbors alike, toward something larger than themselves. This fund keeps that music open to the wider community.

Why $2,000,000

Endowments work by spending only a small percentage of the fund's value each year, so the principal keeps growing and giving indefinitely. At our $2,000,000 goal, the annual earnings are enough to cover a large portion of our music department needs, every year, without end.

It is an ambitious number. We know that. But every endowment starts somewhere, and ours has already begun.

Where We Stand

Every endowment starts with a single gift. Ours started with $16,500 in founding contributions from people who believed in this before it had a name.

As of September 1, 2026, we have raised $18,500 toward our $2,000,000 goal.

That is just the beginning. Our first milestone is $100,000 by December 31, 2027. Reaching it will prove that this fund can grow, and it will give us the foundation to go after the founding gifts that take us the rest of the way. Every dollar between now and then moves us closer.

Be a Founding Donor

The people who give now, at the beginning, are the ones who make everything after possible. A gift to this fund is not paying for something that already happened. It is guaranteeing something that has not happened yet, sacred music at the ASU Newman Center, still strong, fifty and a hundred years from now.

Founding Patron — $50,000 and above
Sustaining Steward — $10,000 to $49,999
Cornerstone Gift — $2,500 to $9,999
Sacred Music Circle — $1,000 to $2,499
Friend of the Fund — any amount

All donors are recognized on our giving page. Founding Patrons and Sustaining Stewards are invited to a special donors-only concert once the fund reaches its first milestone.
